International center for children’s literature Zmaj Children Games, established in Novi Sad in 1957, within different areas of its artistic and professional fields (festival programs, publishing, archiving) gathers writers, illustrators, critics, theorists, publishers, editors, and readers of children’s literature and “consumers” of artistic creation, especially younger population, with the aim of following, affirming, and critically evaluating children’s literature as well as other form of art for children and young people.
During one year, as a part of its projects, Zmaj Children Games create multimedia programs for children and young people, as well as professional projects within which creations for children and young people are reevaluated and affirmed. The most significant artistic, educational, scientific, and research projects of Zmaj Children Games are: June programs, In Zmaj’s Pretty Circle, December Zmaj Days of Beautiful Words, Children Monodrama Festival, Through Pages of Childhood, Digitalization of Archive Collections of Zmaj Children Games, Literary Counseling, The More You Read the Stronger You Are!, A Good Friend, Here Dwell the Stories…
Each year since its foundation, Zmaj Children Games has been organizing professional gatherings studying literature for children and young people, its history and theory, bringing contemplation about art for children as an aesthetic and social phenomenon. In these scientific and artistic projects some of the most relevant theoretical, historical, and cultural questions related to the researched field have been raised and solved. Creators for children who actively participate in the work, professors, theorists, critics, people who study culture and artistic creations in our country, in the region and beyond give significant contribution to the project.
Many take part in the organization of numerous projects during the year: external associates, lecturers at universities home and abroad, journalists, pedagogues, librarians, cultural researchers, artists, translators, which provides quality and permanent sustainability of results. Others who contribute to it are project partners: faculties of pedagogy, philosophy, philology, pedagogical colleges for kindergarten teachers, City Library, preschool institutions, primary schools and grammar schools, art academies, radio stations, magazine and newspaper editorials, TV networks, museums, institution for the protections of cultural monuments, associations of fine, dramatic, music, and multimedia artists, institutions for social care of children and young people, cultural centers…
Zmaj Children Games Documentation Center holds various collections: collection of applied art, photo and video collections, collection of literary artifacts related to the works of Serbian authors from the second half of the 20th century and first decade of the 21st century and others. It develops programs related to the digitalization so that the artistic materials of the Center could be available to the professional public and by networking with cultural and educational institutions it is also available to the widest group of users.
Zmaj Children Games publishing activities revolve around the publishing of the magazine Childhood, which represent a unique concept in our countries, and editions of books whose topic is children’s and youth literature, theory of literature, publications for children and youth in European languages.
Staying in touch with the new generations and keeping up with contemporary communication technologies, Zmaj Children Games has been actively using social media and online platforms in the past years, so that through their online presence their activities could be available to everyone interested.
